About Shades of the Cross

I created Shades of the Cross in the Spring of 1998. I was in school working on one of my music degrees and just unfulfilled. I knew that I was in the right place, and in the right major, but something was missing.

The Spirit of God gave me the inspiration to put together a multi-cultural band. Little did I know that that focus would be part of the core of my prophetic ministry for the rest of my life. I desired to show the world that we indeed could all get along, if we came together under the banner of Jesus Christ. We had Latinos, Asians, African-Americans, Europeans all singing and playing together.

We originally did covers, but I had too much music in me to continue in that vein. We soon moved to my own original music, and started to gain some fans. I used, and use, every influence I've ever been exposed to in creating my music. From the Methodist upbringing with Hymns to my choral training with Evangelicals, I pour it all into my original music.

The band flourished, and we started getting gigs in less than a year. We faced lots of challenges though, as college is a very transitory place by nature. Many members came and left, and I found myself starting over many times.

In 1999 we finally made it to a place where we could record. We unfortunately never finished that whole CD, Nobility. I am still however going to retrack and release that music. Our biggest hit to date was recorded from that project, entitled Come Unto Me, which is currently in rerelease.

I graduated school in 2003 and felt like I need a break. I revived Shades of the Cross in 2007 and did some more touring. More transitions happened, and we took another break.

I spent the years between 2003 and 2015 working behind the scenes. I launched a new artist named Richard Kincaid, wrote songs for Usher and Justin Bieber, worked with the James Taylor singers, worked with jazz great Dave Koz, and put Cuba Gooding Sr. back on the charts after 30 years. But I felt God strongly calling me back to my first love.

Finally, I am bringing my multicultural, multi-stylistic group back to the forefront. And I'm coming with new music, in a new millennium, with a new mandate.
